Canadian Wind Rider sponsors Lake Simcoe Wind Sports Festival

Saturday February 21 and Sunday February 22, 2004, 11:00-15:30 hrs ET - printer friendly format

What Wind Powered Ice & Snow Sailing Sports, download a flyer for your school or place of business

  • Ontario and Québec's finest group of ice and snow sailors of all ages will be showing you how they spend their winter outdoors
  • You'll see kite skiing, kite snowboarding, Snowfering, Uniboarding (demo equipment available), Skimbats, ram air kites, IceHawk, inflatable kites, ice buggies, and more.
  • special attendance by World Ice and Snow Sailing Association (WISSA) champion held in Italy 2002

Wind Riders and spectators please check in with one of the organizers when you get there to sign a waiver and receive your event promotional package or you can pre-register and give the completed form to one of the events organizers when you arrive.

Parking Please obey all the displayed parking signs in the area. The event organizers realize parking may be a challenge for the weekend, but we're asking everyone to do there best to respect the community on their day at the lake.

  • 11:15-11:30hrs Safe & Easy Launching & Retrieval Techniques for Foil Kites

  • 11:30-12:00hrs Marker Race

  • 12:00-13:00hrs Speed trials

  • 13:00-14:00hrs Freestyle Jumping, bring your shovels!

Local information at Lake Simcoe: Bring your FRS radio to the event. When you get to the lake, if you have any questions or need assistance, use channel 4 on your FRS Radio. The event organizers will be monitoring this channel to support you for the day.

There's a Family Festival Schmooze at Shoeless Joe's 4 PM Saturday only. It's a few miles south from the event location on the way back to Toronto. If you mention you were at the festival and say "I'm a Canadian Wind Rider", you can get 10% off your food bill. The address is 18947 Woodbine Avenue at the south east corner of Woodbine Avenue and Mount Albert Road. We have reserved seating in the back room. They have a smoking bar where age of majority is required. There's also five arcade games, so bring the whole family.

  • Take the Rural Route 19/GREEN LANE exit- exit number 53. (.5km)
  • Turn RIGHT onto GREEN LANE E/REGIONAL ROUTE 19. (.6km)
  • Turn LEFT onto WOODBINE AVE/REGIONAL ROUTE 8. (14.3km)
  • Past Mount Albert Road, where you'll see Shoeless Joe's
  • Turn LEFT onto GLENWOODS AVE/REGIONAL ROUTE 33. (2.4km)
  • at the lights before you come to Leslie, Tim Horton's is a great place to stop for a coffee and washroom break
  • Continue to follow GLENWOODS AVE. until you see the lake
