Setting up the
Zero Bar (Kite boarding bar) for the first time
Test both safety systems
with the power/depower strap pulled in before riding
to ensure that you have the safety set up properly;
first the main power loop safety then the leash
safety. Get familiar with the positions of these so
you can find them easily. Test the releases with the
power/depower strap all the way out so that the
maximum tension is on the kite. Do this in a
stationary position before riding.
Depending on what
model you have, please also check the Safety notice
on the Peter
Lynn Zero4 bar.

Twin Skin Spar Sets
(2005.Mar.10 updated 2005.Aug.15) |
|
It's
possible over time that the metal sleeve on a carbon
spar will come unglued. Use
Loctite 401 to
glue it back. Please check your spar set regularly
or purchase 1 piece spar sets. The cost is
approximately half for a 1 piece versus a compact.
When
handling the Twin skins under wind conditions some
care needs to be exercised when holding on to the
spars. A Twin Skin under pressure (pressure by the
force of wind acting upon it) can generate a lot of
force. Resisting the force by holding on the middle
of the spars can exceed the breaking strength of the
spar and cause it to break. This is not a fault of
the spar as the spar's purpose is to provide
structure to the edges of the Twin Skin while in
flight. The spars are of the correct strength (Excel
Strong 9 to be exact) to perform as required. The
best position to restrain the kite if required is to
hold on to the pigtails near where they attach the
kite.

|
Line sets |
|
When
setting up your lines, please check that they are
all equal length before attaching to your kite. It's
best to with equal lines and make the final
adjustments on your leader line or pigtails. Also
check your new lines for stretch on the top/power
lines. Some of the Dyneema lines can stretch/shrink
initially; stretch under power or shrink because of
wetness. ...

Riding on Frozen
Lakes |
|
Consider wearing a knapsack (filled with padding or
evening just another kite) as a back protector to
prevent your head from hitting the ice and falling
back during jumps.

Peter Lynn Spinning Swivel Spreader |
|
Under
tension, in a very rare occasion, the nut may
slightly undo itself and may eventually fall off.
There are two solutions:
-
Use Loctite
for threads to keep it on.
-
Put the nut on backwards as it may not be
grabbing the bold.

Peter Lynn Chicken Loop Releasing on a Peter
Lynn Zero bar |
|
If
you find the chicken loop opening up under pressure,
it could be that the pin is inserted in the wrong
position. The pin needs to feed over the loop not
under. If it's under, it will release under
pressure.

Power/Depower strap
on a PL Zero bar |
|
It is
possible when powering and depowering using the
strap for it to become wedged in the plastic so that
you can't adjust the power. This can happen if you
pull and let go allowing for the tension in the kite
to whip back the strap. When the strap readjusts
itself without you holding it, it can twist and lock
in the plastic. Solution: Don't release the
strap when adjusting, always keep some amount of
tension with your hand and allow the strap to flow
smoothly.
