Dear Rider/Spectator,
The original theme of the
festival was Smooth Your Ride, but
after the females dominated the festival on
Sunday, it seem only appropriate that it be
called Girls Just Wanna Go Kite.
Forecasts or not, regular
riders know that it is just an indication about
the weather and what might be happening. What
really matters is what's going on while you're
setting up your equipment. That is the only
reality of what lies ahead in your ride. The
forecasted winds were pretty much bang on. The
rain really depended on where you were. It was
overcast and raining lightly in the earlier part
of the morning. Some of the early riders enjoyed
slightly offshore south east 30km/hr winds with
light rain. Most of them rode until it was too
wet either by equipment or clothing. Thanks for
coming out and showing people what it was all
about; rain or no rain.
Shortly before noon, things
began to change. The rain eventually stopped and
riders enjoyed some building turbulent winds.
Definitely a first at the festival, but the
female kiters/participants outnumbered the guys
by about four to one. Too bad for all the guys
that didn't make it up. The girls really showed
what riding was all about and persevered the
weather as they experienced kite passion.
Of course the number of
people attending on Sunday was very small, but
those riders that did, rode irrespective of the
marginal surface and gusty wet winds. Also for
the first time, a female videographer from the
A-Channel, Jackie braved the in climate weather
for some footage for the Evening Around Town
piece.
A special thanks to:

on the ice was expanded to accommodate all

The winter sailing season on
Lake Simcoe usually ends in early April when the
ice melts. There's still time for you to enjoy
what the Ontario winter season has to offer. So
come on out and find out how you can
Smooth Your Ride.
