Dear Trikke
client,
All the best this year to you and your active
family! We hope that you have finally managed to get a
few rides in sporting your summer shorts on
those warmer days. We have a few updates and we also welcome those new
Trikke riders to our newsletter.
Also new, if you're too busy to read or would
like to listen to this as a podcast, the mp3
(32 kBits/sec, 16,000 Hz Mono to keep things
small) version, can be downloaded
here. It is
approximately 2.7Mb in size and 12 minutes in
duration.

As
a Trikke Technician and Trainer, there
are a few questions that I get asked
quite frequently.
Without sounding like an ego centric I
can say that I have a degree of
experience that can help make your next
move forward. As a Trikke rider since
April 2007 and a certified trainer level
3 and
technician since summer of 2008, and
with access to and experience on every
model to date except the Pon-e Electric
(but hope to change that soon), I am
confident that I'll be able to help
guide and move you towards a fun and
healthier Trikke ride experience.
This
is by no means meant to be definitive
black or white decision rule; only a
guide to help make your next Trikke
purchase a more informed one.
Let's
talk about which Trikke is right for you
first. We're going to leave the hill
climbing
talk to the next newsletter and include
some videos.
There are
numerous factors specific to you that
will affect your decision.
Each
of the tables below represents a
different decision or priority factor
and what we have seen or experienced as
a general trend or recommendation.
Assumptions and notes:
-
T5, T67 are standard with polyurethane wheels.
-
T78, T78 Deluxe, T8, T12 are all
configured with air inflated tires.
-
Unless you have a perfectly smooth
surface (like cement on a skate park
or like those perfectly smooth paths
that you've seen in California or
Florida), we recommend and only sell
air inflated units to adults for dry
asphalt use. Indoor users can use
polyurethane wheels depending on the
surface.

Note 1:
Some consideration needs to
be given to youth and the
other members of the family.
If your child is still
growing and there is only
one rider, then it might be
better to buy them into a
larger unit rather than have
them outgrow a smaller one.
If on the other hand you
have more than one youth
rider, get the right sized
unit for the primary rider
then you'll be able to use
the hand-me-down approach
for the littler ones.
Note 2:The
rider's height for T5 and
T67 has been left blank as
we have seen that age is a
stronger deciding factor
unless the youth is
particularly tall. |

Note 2:
Except for cost, the

for a T78 or a T78
Deluxe. The deluxe comes in
a brighter metallic green or
pink and there are some
upgraded components around
and on the handle bar area.

easier than a T78 or T8
simply due to the 12" wheel

the T12 is more like a GS

More effort
to climb hills than a T78 or

the unit and the turning

By easier, we mean or

physical principle that a
larger diameter will has
less rolling resistance than
a smaller diameter wheel. |
Hills... To
Be Continued in the next newsletter.
Some of the advanced level videos are up, but we'll leave
the commentary and text for the next
news letter. We'll also have some beginner
hill climbing videos done to
complete the series.
If you would like
some help with your hill climbing or
riding,
upload a
You Tube video
of yourself and
send us the link. The camera
angles that would be best are from
the font, then pass by the camera
technician; front and side shots are
the most showing of skills and
technique. We'll provide
our best commentary to help you
improve your move!
Please don't
mail any videos, only links to
on-line sites.

Trikke
for Heart and Stroke (wrap up) |
 |
|
Despite
the rainy weather, the Trikke for Heart
and Stroke had a small attendance by
Trikkers. The north part of the city was
still raining when the start of the
route began. We believe this north
weather condition had a lot to do with
the small turn out. Compared to last
year the west bound route was a dream as
there was very little wind. A dry,
smooth and open westbound Gardner
Expressway was enjoyed by those who were
lucky enough to participate.
The up down and around of
the turn around point was as bumpy as
ever, and the Trikkers had a much easier
time navigating the surface than the
roller bladers. From that point forward
and on to the finish it was smooth
sailing.
I would say more than any
event that we've participated in, the
Ride for Heart and Stroke has the
largest visibility. When you're coming
in to the finish line, all the bikers
waiting to get on the route are still in
line. And this would be thousands of
on-lookers. It was too much fun to turn
so many heads in such a short time. |

Exploring Toronto by Trikke |
 |
|
The
City of Toronto
just released the new
Exploring Toronto Parks and Trails
map which features up-to-date trails and pathways along with a directory of clubs and associations. You can download a copy of the map
here or call 416-392-1111 ext.5 to get a copy sent to you in the mail. It's a useful resource for planning a day of biking,
trikking, walking or hiking and provides insight into how the City's plans for linking biking,
trikking and walking paths are coming together.
For your trikking needs,
please look for the "Hard
Surface Trails" in the
legend. They'll provide the best
trikkeable experience.
We also have stock of the
map in our Toronto location, so if
you're coming by, don't forget to ask
for one. |

Strawberry Festival Parade -
Stouffville |
 |
|
Have
you ever wanted to Trikke in a parade?
We may be looking for volunteers to
Trikke the
Annual Strawberry Festival Parade in
Stouffville on July 4th. The parade
starts at 9:30am and will proceed east
on Main Street to the Town Park. The
route is from Albert Street and Main
Street, along Main Street ending at Park
Drive. The total distance is probably
about 1km which is a very short
distance, so you'll be able to move to
the groove at a very reasonable pace.
All riders will need to
be wearing a helmet. Please
contact us if you're interested in
riding during the parade. Once we get
more details, we'll update you on the
event. |

A healthy recovery from abdominal
surgery - Dave is here and
he's alive and well |
 |
|
One
of our riders writes to us about their
success with Trikkes and their recovery.
My name is Dave and I first found out about the Trikke product on the infomercials on early morning television. In my mid 50's I underwent an abdominal surgery that left me unable to work for almost
one year and compromised my physical conditioning greatly. With absolutely no abdominal strength whatsoever while I was recovering; I worked quite closely with Physio and Physical Therapists to coach me along.
As I laboured through this process I purchased a Trikke T-8 poly and shared the thought of using this amazing device in my recovery with the professionals. Much to my delight, I began to tone up and lose a little weight.
In my own mind, I thought this new found way to get back into some kind of shape was in fact working!
After the first year went by, within 7 months I felt I was making progress albeit slowly. I could feel a difference but wasn't sure why. It could only be the diligence of the use of my Trikke that was making the difference! Very slowly at first and with a little frustration; the professionals encouraged me to continue with the use of the Trikke.
Now after another year I feel better having shed some 25 pounds, perked up my physical conditioning and continue to increase the level of activity with the use of such a wonderful device as the Trikke 8.
Now I am looking to upgrade to a T-8 Air and use my other one for indoor use throughout the winter months.
Continued success and happy Trikking!
Regards, Dave
